I know that this is a 360, but I need to know what year or is that even possible? I know that it came out of a Jeep, but it's been so long I don't remember what Jeep it came out of.
Tag from the right side valve cover... This is in the valley... And this is on the bell housing area... The person that I got it from gave it to me. They had intentions of putting in a jeep that had a bad motor. The person was moving and couldn't take it with them so they gave it away. It is complete. Came with a motor craft 2 barrel. Partially dis assembled when I got it. The person I got it from stated to me that he wanted to make sure it was a running motor. All he was going to do was regasket it and drop it into a jeep that had a bad 304, which turned out wasn't as bad as he thought it was. Something minor. Thanks in advance! W. |

It looks like it's a factory replacement block made between 70-84 and the casting number is also for 390, 401 from 70-80 |

What casting number heads? Going strictly by the valve cover tag, the first 2 tells me it's either a 1979 or 1989 360 2bbl motor. My guess is that it'd be 1979 motor since I believe they changed engine codes by then. Would be out of a full size Wagoneer/Cherokee/J10/J20.
Now, what the valve cover is attached to could be a completely different story. What does the displacement on the side of the block say? |

If you are saying the valve cover is original....wnat you have is a 1979, 360 2V (2 barrel) engine built on February 24, 1979. The 3195528 is the casting number on all 360 (2 or 4 V) engine...NOT 390 or 401, they use a different casting number. I believe Eddie Stake's website is wrong....3195529 is 1970 390...1971 up 401 I have always found with 3198951....exception would be Small Cubic Inch Service Block sometimes used the 401 casting numbers.
Here is a January 1971 401 Block. Edited by 401MATCOUPE - Oct/05/2014 at 10:21am |

360... Plain as day. It also says 360 in the valley. I didn't really look at the heads, yet. But I can get them off and have a look at them if needed. As far as I know, the valve cover is the original. |

Looks like you've been steered the right way. I just want to point out that it couldn't be an 89. Starting in 1980 the year code (first number) became the last number of the year and used a Zero for the first time (for 1980). Prior to that only the numbers 1-9 were used. Count back from 79 (2) and repeat back to 195.... 8? Can't remember what the first years was, but the engine code for that year was 1.

I pulled the heads the other day and checked the casiting numbers..
I think the last 4 are 3344??? I wrote them down but I don't have them with me. Those heads are from 78-79 from what I could gather. So, yes, this is from late 70"s.. |
