I would look into parts for Audi and Porsche 121 motors. AMC sourced This motor from them in the late 70s and Audi and Porsche used these extensively in several models, albeit with turbos. I would try searching for a charcoal canister for either of those motors and you may be able to pull up more results. Good luck!

That is probably the check valve downstream of theair diverter valve for the air guard system. The Air Guard system consists of a an air pump and hoses/lines to inject air into the exhaust manifold to enhance the combustion of the hot gases early in their passage through the exhaust. The part that actually screws into the manifold is called a check valve and it should be common to many other AMC and other makers parts from that era. A would wager that several forum members can get a used one to you. Joe

you seriously need to get a copy fo the factory technical service manual. you can't effectively work on this old stuff without one.

Thanks fellas already with the response I have gotten has helped me identify the part and how to shop for it. Also I am in Oklahoma I done see many AMC show/swap meets around this area, would love to go to some but.....also in these parts good quality salvage yards are dying and already hard enough finding parts for these(drivers side exterior door handle 77' gremlin) and not having luck online either so any directions i can be pointed in that would be GREAT!!!
and per the advice I have already located a tech manual for my car.

I think the AMC vendors offer the small car door handles and that is one part that is made better than the original. It might not be an exact match but it is very close. It think the repops resulted from a demand from Jeep owners (who drive much of the drivetrain parts demand). Joe

I don't know which one that the 151/4 needs. It may take 3 lines or 4 to the canister. BTW the charcoal canisters purpose is to collect vapors when the engine is shut off. On the 4 line unit there are two vacuum lines one for ported vacuum and the other for PCV( this is on the 78 six). The two other bit larger lines are from the carb fuel bowl(nipple next to the fuel inlet) and the fuel tank to "catch" vapors from those areas. You can block off those lines and be able to operate the car, until you find a replacement. Get a Tech manual as was said. The only issue, except for vapors venting, maybe more difficult to restart on a hot engine.
