Another brake question.

I'm finishing up my son's 79 CJ. it has the stock discs on the front with a 9" Ford with drums in the rear. We converted it to power brakes with a Tuff Stuff booster/MC and bell crank bracket kit for a CJ. I'm using the original flat brass prop/metering valve in the original place.

According to the Service Manual, you are supposed to disable the metering part of the valve, by pulling out the little pin on the end under the rubber cover. They show a little tool in the manual to hold the valve out. I remember doing this years ago, but on this one the little pin is flush with the nut and there's nothing to grab.

Has anybody done this or know what that tool does. This looks like the pin pushes in, but I'm not sure. Or should I worry about it?

Thanks!

On that combination valve you don't pull the pin out! You disable it by pushing and holding the pin inward while you bleed the front brakes!

Thanks Dennis,

Lightly held the pin in with a big vise-grip. Bled easily with my ancient "Vacula" vacuum bleeding tool. Forgot about it and will have to try on the Rogue's brakes.

When I started, there was no fluid at the rear wheels cylinders. Every part in the brake system is new except for the rear SS flex line and the prop valve. Wouldn't you know it, the rear flex line was plugged with bits of rust. I've been playing with cars for 45 years and never seen a plugged brake line. My son actually just ordered and replaced the front SS lines. It probably would have been cheaper to buy the whole set!

Anyway, it's the best pedal I've gotten in a long time. We'll see how it is with the booster running tomorrow.
