There is a heater core replacement in my future and I need some advice.

I bought a new core from one of the AMC vendors.  It is the later style core with the bracket.  I assume that the bracket needs to be modified or removed.

How is the best way to do that?

Do I use a dremel tool with a cutting wheel and cut the bracket or ?

I have heard folks use heat to remove the entire bracket. but that seems risky to the integrity of the core.

Any tips from those that have done it?

Darron, just use a berzomatic torch at a low setting. You'll have to use the end panels from your old core and solder them on to the new heater core. It's a pretty easy job

Thanks Joe.  Seems like the soldered joints close to the bracket would be at risk, but I'll give it a go.

A radiator shop will also do the work and pressure test it.

One of the end plates has the PN and date code. I bought a replacement core years ago and the end tank had the tube sizes switched. I took the original and replacement to a radiator shop and had them swap the original tank and plates onto the new core.
I'm not sure if the current replacements have the tubes the same as OE, so verify if that's important to you.

Moved - this is modification - HVAC question not restoration.
