3M has came out with a kit to restore plastic headlights. Used it on my Plymouth mini van. Works great. Basicly the same as sanding and buffing clearcoat. Kit comes with DVD, mini sander, mini buffer, sandpaperin a carring case. Not Sure of the price, But I'm sure it's up there around $250 or more. I know Amc didn't have plastic headlights, but it could probaly be used on other plastic parts. Check with your local Body shops. 3M is sending theyre reps out now and showing this new kit to them now. (Sorry, Here comes the shamless plug) We have it at Freightliner Body shop in N. Little Rock.

Non-3M versions of this kit are showing up at Wal-Mart and general parts stores as well. Essentially you're sanding and buffing the plastic just as you would a fresh paint job to make it smooth. Once you sand off the oxidation from the headlight, give it a coat of clearcoat to help prevent re-oxidation.

I used a non 3M kit on my Tacoma about three years ago -- made a big difference, but need to do it again.  Don't believe the hype - the "restoration" isn't permanent.

Would this work on the instrument cluster lens ?

No reason it wouldn't, but you'd have to be careful with the abrasives -- my guess is the plastic on the instrument lense is much softer than that in late model headlights, so a little abrasive will go a long way.  Also, you need to be real careful about the areas of transition from relatively flat to domed (if any), since the kits are designed for headlights, which mostly have an even curve to them.

I found this out when working on a car the other day with yellow headlights when I spilled a little bit of oil. Put a little bit of motor oil on it and wipe it away on the outside. It cleaned right off did it on mine too.
