What do you think of these vintage head gaskets?
For a street only engine, mild cam. 10.2 -1 compression ratio.

Would you use them? They might be better than today's felpro's.....do you think?

Why pay that kind of price ($19.95), they are on Rockauto right now for $9.22 each, same gasket.....they are fine for a stock engine.

What's the silver coating on the Cal Custom felpro version versus the Rock Auto felpros?

Of course ya gotta use Copper Spray A Gasekt ! Correct? Man it's been a long time....

I've heard bad things about the new felpro's. Those old Cal customs felpro's are what I put in the Javelin back when (Late 70s) it only had 90K on the clock but ingested a chunk of crap that dinged a valve seat. 40K later still doing fine. Looking at a street build that may come apart several times during the next few years due to experimentation and potentially get Edelbrock aluminum heads bolted on in place of the smoothed over combustion chambers and ports 291C heads.

These old Cal Custom felpros are made from real asbestos, I assume the new felpro's are not......??

I exclusively use the new Felpros and have had no problems at all, even if the surfaces are not perfect.

Never had a problem with the FelPro gaskets - use them on almost everything.

I like the FelPro also.
Only problem seems to be old stock crankshaft seals that are harder and leak.
Gaskets don't age on the shelf like polymers do.
