Hoskins Motors, Auburn,NY 1976-1986  (Parts Mgr.) As an aside, Hoskins was an AMC/Rambler  dealer from day one, in 1954 he was selling Hudson badged Nashes. I enjoyed finding NOS Hudson parts in their inventory, as my daily driver back then was a '53 Twin H Hornet. Hoskins Motors closed when Chrsyler bought AMC,as he just hit retirement age. (1954-1987)

I've worked in a few (cleaning out their parts inventories) but never worked at an AMC dealer. I only worked for a Chrysler in the late 70's early 80's...

1978:

Northland AMC/Jeep in Thornton CO - Mechanic

THORNTON

80229, Northland AMC/Jeep Inc., AMC/Jeep/Renault, 1800 W. 104th Ave. (303) 469-1931

Steve Johnson Pontiac/AMC/Jeep in Colorado Springs CO - Assistant Body Shop Manager
COLORADO SPRINGS
80901, Steve Johnson, AMC/Jeep, 1250 S. Nevada Ave. (303) 475-1155

Probably doesn't count, but from 1966 to 1973 I worked (sometimes) at my dad's Jeep dealership, Gopher Jeep in Burnsville MN. AFAIK, it was one of the few Jeep delaers that never actually took on AMC cars after the AMC- Jeep merger. They might've taken the Eagle name on in 87 after the Chrysler take-over. Currently they are Park Jeep/Chrysler

I first started off going to my dads AMC dealership after school to wash cars, move cars in and out of the shop for the mechanics, work in the parts dept. and on the race cars. After I got my drivers license they used me as  a parts runner.

Later on in life I went to work for Weber American in Lawndale CA. as a quick service & lube man. They sent me to an AMC school where I learned to do brakes and front end alignments (gravy work). I would also help out in the parts dept. when they needed help.

After that I worked in the parts dept. at Bob Hansen Motors a Jeep & IH  dealership in Hawthorne CA. I started out working the mechanics counter, then worked my way up to parts manager.

After that I went to work at Walker Buerge Jeep Eagle as a machanics parts counterman.

That's my AMC job history.

If it counts from 1999-current have worked as a parts counterman at a Jeep/chrysler/dodge dealership in Forest Lake mn. Ever since I started working here we have been selling parts to Moody's service in Lindstrom Mn that back in the day used to be an AMC dealership. It is now just a all brand make repair shop that is ran by a decendant of the origional owner.

I worked at Larry Smith Buick / AMC in Morgantown WV for one glorious year in 1984.  I was the asst service mgr (i.e.; the write-up guy).   I remember the service mgr still wore leisure suits to work in 1984!!!

I was also stuck with writing up the Renault warranty claims - that was tedious work.   Had to hand-write them on these fat four-plicate carbon-paper forms, and then send them over the pond for eventual payment.

Larry Smith himself was a hoot.  He hit the bottle a lot.   His wife, Iris, actually ran the business.   I quit to go back to college (Morgantown is a college town, and tuition was cheap if you lived there).   After I graduated, Iris offered me a job as Service Mgr -- I declined since I already had a job lined up in Cincinnati with GE.

The dealership sponsored an annual golf tourny there, with a free Buick for a hole-in-one on a particular hole.   One year, '85 or '86, Larry never got around to buying the insurance policy to cover the risk of giving away a car on the hole.   As luck would have it, that year someone actually got the hole-in-one!!   So Larry ate a free Buick -- and man was Iris pissed!!   I bet Larry got cut off for at least a year.

That's about it for my AMC dealer memories.

South Shore AMC, Norwell MA. Service Manager.

Also helped out a lot at Hassand Bros AMC/Jeep in Quincy,
MA. They sold Nashes since the 1930s, and Chrysler just pulled the dealership last week as they did not sell enough cars. They will continue as a Used Car Dealership in the same buildings.
