Can anyone tell me how to set my 1969 Javelin 290 engines timing, I see the timing marks on the timing chain cover but cannot find a notch on the harmonic balancer as noted in the TSM? Also while during the timing, do I disconnect the vacuum advanced? The TSM did not state to do so for the 1969 engine?

Thanks in avdanced

Not a divot or notch, but a thin groove that runs all the way from the front to back of the outside surface of the balancer. It may be full of paint if the engine has been repainted.

And the groove may not be where you would expect if the damper has slipped.  With age they often twist from their correct orientation.
