For better or worse I purchased a stainless oil pump midplate. It comes with two gaskets, and I suppose the intention is to install a gasket on each side. Id rather permanently attach is to the midplate with a very thin adhesive, maybe epoxy.
More gaskets means more gasket compression. And gaskets compress more near the fasteners so fewer/thinner gaskets means flatter clamped surfaces (so long as you start with flat surfaces). Also, the included gaskets are identical, which means the bottom gasket is hollow under the plate where the gears ride. A 60 psi pump with nothing but a thin stainless shim below the gears seems less than optimal. My hunch is 60 psi is sufficient to bow the midplate into the unnecessary gear cutout in the bottom gasket.

I use the bulltear adapter and mid plate I used thinner SCE gaskets to get the right clearance and have an adjustable oil pressure relief that I can dial up to 70 psi if needed. Don't glue the thing together. Simply not needed

Here are the gaskets and plate. If I put a gasket and midplate on the filter housing I can bow the center with moderate thumb pressure. Because the area under the gears has no gasket to support it. And if it did I suspect the gasket could swell once oil wicks into iy, closing up the clearance I'd built into it.

The gasket below the midplate doesnt affect gear clearance. The gasket above the midplate does.
I'm thinking about what adhesive, and how to clamp it so its flat after its attached. Something like JB Weld is too thick, and will probably not squish out enough, leaving air pockets and high spots. A runny epoxy might work well, or a runny aircraft adhesive. Also, clamping to the timing cover wont work because the hollow pump cavity wont smoosh it flat in the center.

Ah! I see the problem now. I didnt get the correct gasket for below the midplate. Its supposed to be solid under the gears. Here is the photo from Bulltear.
