So I'm trying to put together a cost-effective transmission for my stroker before it eats the 4.03 first gear in my T-5 and I've been hunting through a number of listings that just don't relate to what I'm doing all because this is a non-World Class transmission and everyone has moved on. The first issue is that I need a wide ratio transmission just to get this moving and to take advantage of all the multipurpose functions of this vehicle throughout the difficult parts of the year and to handle the abuse of when I need a crawler/pusher. A 2.xx-3.35 first gear candidate is just flat out unacceptable when an AX-15 gets the 3.83 gear with more than the appropriate strength.

The real problem is my T-5 4.03 gear makes the input shaft weak and there is no successor that I can just drop in for rebuild. I shot this question over to HPT and they recommend an adapter to the AMC bell with a Ford WC T-5 case and WC mainshaft. The more I keep thinking about how tight all of this fit when I first snugged it up, I'm not even sure this is feasible for direct swap and not certain if it makes sense to keep this tech when I could just zip up to Olympic 4x4 and grab a donor AX-15 straight up for a $$$ swap. Is this the real successor to the T-5 and should I go that route or is there a cheap way to keep using the T-5 instead of hoping it doesn't blow up ever ##K miles?

Jeeps use the AX-15 and they get punished off road in low range, seemingly handling the abuse.

That's the one thing I understand about the AX-15 in terms of durability, it can take it but it's usually being abused in low range. If I added a low range option to my Eagle, would this issue go away when wheeling?

I don't understand your issue. I have a warmed up Dauntless V6 in my 66 Jeep with a TH350 and low range gave me enough power to destroy the transmission three times and to twist the front driveshaft 90 degrees. Low range and big tires can break a lot of components, but the AX-15 seems to take it as well as most.
