uploads/3086/My_390_on_stand.aviHere's the movie. Headers are not on yet and the exhaust will be much louder in the car. I'll have to cut down the oil pressure a bit to keep the gears alive. 80+lbs hot at 3000 and 30+ at 550 idle. I have no special oil mods or lines, just good clearances and attention to detail. The cam bearing fitment is critical. The stock oil filter bypass leaks like a sieve and it was eliminated. used,300,000 mile stock timing cover was put back on in place of the Bulltare one I had on it. There was too much play in the shaft bores for me to get a good side clearance. This re-do was instigated with only a few hundred miles on the old build because of a wicked shake at 2500 and tanking oil pressure, (20 hot idle and 40 hot at speed). This time I installed my own cam bearings and reamed them to fit the cam as well as fixing up the old stock AMC cover. No oil mods or lines. This one is a cruiser.
Well, I can't find a way to upload a movie that is not YouTube or Adobe flash????????? What the $%&*

Yep, I'm coming up with 9.69 static, and 7.31 dynamic. Should be perfect for pump gas.

Greyhound, how did you come up with the dynamic? Did you plug in the cam specs also?

That's from my cam spreadsheet in Excel. I was using 288 adv and 224 at 0.050 for the intake lobe. It makes some assumptions about ramp rates and symmetry for the "custom" cams you enter, but should be close.

Do you have the cam card for your cam? On the Herbert website they show a 3N grind in their big table of cam grinds, but it's 279/284, 218/224, 0.494/0.500, 112 LCA, 108 ICL.

They must have changed the grind. The numbers from my post are from the cam card.

I just installed a Lunati and the Cam Card was not the same as the order "specifications".
Talked to their technician and they are updating everything as the grind specifications (and previous Cam Card) came from the drawings. The Cam Cards are now done by measuring. 0.484" lift turns out to be 0.493" lift, quite a bit different, who knew you actually have to measure? Maybe this is a new industry standard, measuring! |

General purpose hydraulic cam masters typically are designed for a small block Chevy lobe. A Chevy master ground on an AMC core will have slightly different timing events. Unless they have a master for an AMC, or can adjust the program to suit, you generally have to fully degree the cam to verify timing events.
