I had to tear down my 401 and found various damage that necessitates a complete rebuild. One problem I found was a bent arm on a Carter M6505 fule pump. This may have been my fault during installation or possibly the wrong pump. Rather than attempt to bend the arm back into the correct position I was just going to buy a new pump. Unfortunately Summit lists two pumps for AMCs, the M6505 that I have and an M6763. The arms are different on the two pumps so how do you determine which is the correct pump?

So I need the M6763? What does the 05 fit?

To clarify... this is what you need.
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/crt-m6505/overview/make/american-motors As for the other, i have no clue, as all the AMC v8 blocks i dealt with are from 76 to 70. It may be 68 to 69, single piece arm. The original carters for pre 70 were two piece with a pivot flat at the fuel pump eccentric. |

The M6505 has the inlet and outlet low....then after 1975 or so they flipped the pump upside down and the inlet and outlet are on top like the M6763.
The current M6505 is NOT like the original, the diaphragm is quite a bit smaller then the original pumps. If you are looking for correct M6505, I have 2 left from the last run that was made by Carter.

It's sad how much stuff has changed in parts availability...
Not sure what I'd do if I needed a new fuel pump for my V8 AMC... What's available now seems hit or miss, some have posted having wrong fuel pressure with the new stock type aftermarket pumps... I might look into a RobbMC Fuel Pump it comes with it's own considerations. Maybe consider an Electric Fuel Pump with a Regulator and a return line to the tank. Unless you can find someone who can rebuild an old Carter 6906 and find a 6906. But if it's a hot rod, I'd probably go electric, just an opinion. It's sad how much stuff has changed in parts availability...

I use the RobbMC pump to feed 2 Edelbrock AVS 500 carbs on a tunnel ram. No regulator needed and no problems. Very nice piece. I have a couple old 6906 super pumps in a box just in case and have rebuiild kits which IIRC are a big block Ford kit.
