Im looking at the engine side of the coolant passages.  There are worm hole passages between each passage and the chain side of the cover to bleed a coolant leak to outside rather than into the chain case.  Thats good, except it leaves a very thin strip of material to form the seal.   Im considering filling the worm holes with epoxy, smoothing flat, to give better gasket clamping surface.

The options are a crappy gasket surface with higher leak probability that will vent to the outside, or a better gasket surface that will leak to the chain case if it would leak.  I'm leaning toward filling the grooves and doing an extra super job of sealing the gasket around those passages .

I was also thinking of sealing that worm hole.
Ross what do you think?

I know its late to reply, but that worm wood type hole is for the gasket to seal better. Once the cover is properly cleaned at the mating surface, the gasket will pinch and seal. Never had a leak on any of the covers i replaced with the water ports.

That worm hole is water pressure relief, so it escapes out to the exterior instead of internally into the engine.
