I said what I did because I own two 327's with four barrel carburetors. One has a stock air cleaner with a single narrow snorkel and the other has a dual snorkel from a 1971 401. I feel no difference. I've swapped the air cleaners between them. I still feel no difference. I even have a third design of air cleaner for a 327: a big round thing that looks like an oil bath enough though it's not. Still runs the same. I've flipped the air cleaner lid like every teenage punk. Still runs the same but makes an awful noise.

So I speak from a practical perspective of actually doing it, and realizing it was a waste of time in terms of performance.

Of you want the look, that is fine. Go crazy. Just don't expect to open up a bunch of horspower with it. That's why I said what I did.
I think you are only right in the sense that a stock engine under 300hp will not "FEEL" the affects at all, but your butt dyno isn't exactly scientific proof. Those with modified engines will get some nice gains from duel snorkels and even more from certain types of performance air cleaners and filters (velocity stacks being the best as trader mentioned). Any car guy would be happy to do anything he can to gain a couple HP wherever he could.
It just makes sense that being a engine is essentially an air pump, that the less restricted it is the more power it will make.

The dual snorkel air cleaner that I have on one of my 327's came from a 1971 Javelin 401, just like the one pictured earlier in this thread.

Only someone had it chromed decades ago before me.

It came in the trunk of my car when I first got it and was the only air cleaner that came with the car, so I used it.

Looks good. Doesn't help performance by any amount that I can feel, measure, or calculate with formulas, but it looks neat. Goes well with the chrome valve covers and lifter valley cover.

I've considered making a dual snorkel air cleaner for my four barrel 360. I don't think my two barrel 360 would benefit from a higher flow air cleaner, but the four barrel might. I'll have to do some manometer tests to find out for sure if it's worth it.

For us Jeep folks, the snorkel breathes through a piece of flex duct connected to the grill. This pulls air from a pocket behind the headlight. Handy in deep water crossings.

I was in a quandary due to the Chevy TBI fuel injection on my 304. The Chevy air cleaner didn't mate up to the flex duct and the Jeep air cleaner didn't mate up to the TBI base. So I grafted a Jeep snorkel onto a Chevy air cleaner. While you're at it, why not do two?

Yeah, I built one for my Jeep, too. I used a 78 Wagoneer housing and my stock 79 housing.
