As has been already stated in another post, oil is free to flow into the tail housing cavity. There is also a drilled hole at the back of the transmission housing for it to drain into the pan.

The ring gear on the M35 torque converter which goes behind the 196 is 12 1/2" across.

The ring gear on the M36 T/C behind the 232 is 12 3/4" across. With the exception of the ring gear both T/C's look the same.
