Long absence for me, but I finally have time to work on a few Ramblers. I have a 327 from a early Wagoneer on an engine test stand. I need to hook up the oil pressure, water temperature etc. gages. My gages are all mechanical. I believe the oil port is at the rear near the distributor. Where can I find a port for the water temp sensor. Nothing on the thermostat housing or water pump that I can see. Thanks in advance,

Cylinder head. Thats where factory sender unit goes. There is a second plug that can be used as well.

thanks for the quick response. The ports on the head are 1/4” not for the stock electric sensor. My engine test stand is set up with mechanical gages.(3/8” not minimum) guess I’ll need to use different gages.

By the way, when you install the engine in the car, the auto parts store catalogs will list a 1/4 inch NPT temperature sensor for these engines and that is what they will try to sell you, but those sensors read incorrectly high on the stock gauge. You need a 1/8 inch NPT sensor used on the 1976 and up engines with a 1/4 inch NPT to 1/8" NPT adapter to make your gauge read properly. Just ask for a temperature sensor for a 1977 AMC Hornet with a 232 I6. That will get you the right one.

good tip, had issue reading too high back in the day. Frustrating and Took several tries until used an AMC part. It was like they were are designed for idiot lights vs. gauge.

Is this the case for all AMC V8s? Just bought a temp sensor for my 343 off Rock Auto.
