Is there special friction modifier additive that you should add to the gear lube after rebuild?

Thanks
David

Depends on the gear oil you use.  Some gear oil is specifically for limited slip applications and has some of said friction modifiers in it.

I've been told it doesn't hurt anything to add the little 3-ounce (or so) bottle of modifier as well.  Used to be a Delco brand that was available at pretty much any decent auto parts store...

Thanks Fluffy73.
I am restoring a 69 AMX. Replacing Bearings & Seals (not clutch pack). Bought 80-90 gear club & a small bottle of modifier at O'Reilly's just making sure it was correct.

Thanks
David

In another post on this forum it was mentioned that one of the best additives for this application today is available at GM dealerships.

Also the Honda guys have been using GM additive in their manual trannys as well. Been a common knowledge with them before I stumbled upon the info on a Honda forum. Discovered it back when we got our Accord in 2011.

There are diff lubes that are already formulated for limited slip diffs. No additive required.
