Here's a description of where I am:

My Harland Sharp 1.6's are in. I just measured and need to order new pushrods. I plan to stay with 5/16's and need 8 and 3/16's of an inch long. This will be a daily driver with occasional towing and offroading. This rig will very rarely see 6K RPM.

I see steel PRs are about $2/each, Chromeoly are about $6/each. I don't have a problem spending money on doing it "right" but is chromeoly "needed"? Part of me says to get steel because it would be better to bend a PR then flatten a lobe (engine has a brand new cam in it right now). Is that stupid? I feel like Chromeoly would be needed for a high reving engine and one with monster valve springs but my Comp Cams valve springs are not that stiff. Then again, am I being cheap? Dah! I don't know what to do! Cry

You might not need a $96 set of Chrome Moly pushrods over a set of $32 pushrods. but if a $2 pushrod gives up it's going to eat into your $380 set of Harland Sharp rocker arms. Pushrods are a good place to spend money if you want bulletproof reliability.

Man I'm getting old, but...
Aren't Hardened Pushrods needed iirc since they rub on the in-head "guide-slots"?...

I do want bulletproof reliability. I don't want my rockers toasted, either.

probably? (needed since they rub)

I'll order Chrome Moly. Thank you gentlemen.
