I now own my dream car! 1966 MARLIN!! YES!

I own a 67 Rambler Rebel (the redesign year from 66). That steering wheel is easy to get the horn ring off.

On my 66 Marlin...I'm not sure what the first step is to remove the horn ring on those cars. Do I have to pull off the nice plastic 'R' Power Steering plastic logo in the center, first to get started?

Disconnect the battery.  Push in on the horn ring at the center and twist it 1/4 turn counterclockwise and the ring will come off.  Then you just need a steering wheel puller.

66 still has the funny Gemmer box with the weird concentric-bolt steering wheel puller? i think Galvin's used to sell 'em but i did a quick check and don't see it. not cheap and not easy to fabricate, sadly.

i hope i'm wrong and by 66 AMC moved on to newer wheels that could take a more common puller!

the TSM would tell you.

No. A 1966 Marlin uses a Saginaw steering box whether it has power steering or manual steering.

Sure glad you didn't destroy the beautiful center of your steering wheel trying to figure out how it comes off. That's the most beautiful part of the interior. Would be a shame to see it destroyed.

I'm hoping as well for a newer wheel change out in the 66 year for the modern puller. The tsm doesn't show the popular in detail. I'll find out.

The 1966 wheel does use a modern puller.

The horn button comes off by hand.
A large socket takes the retaining nut off.
A 2-bolt puller removes the wheel.
