I think moparguy did the amc1 in a 70 or later Javelin. I think the main issue is the filler neck is centered, so a cut out may need to be done to allow it to fit, or a customisation of the tank to allow offsetting the neck placement, with cutting and welding.

Also the strap bolts have been sourced by using common hardware long bolts. There a link on making a set for tank installation.

I didn't have any problems getting it in. What I think you're thinking about is the fuel pump module I put in mine. That's where I did the cutting and welding. Other than that, just longer straps and bolts like everyone else. Picture of my tank.

AMCers
I know this post was a couple of years ago. I read all the info. My SC Rambler tank is fine and not rusted. Going to box it up with all the other factory parts. But I was considering using the Spectra AMC 1 gas tank because the fill tube is in the center of tank providing more room for the tail pipes. All dimensions are about the same except it would be about 1 1/2 inch lower.
Can't tell from the picture is there a 2 inch tube coming out of tank to connect to my gas fill tube or do  need to weld a pipe on for that?
Also I would need a new fuel sending unit with 3/8 inch line, do any of you have part number for that could not find one on Spectra web site?
Maybe I would need to get a factory fuel sending unit from 1978 and up AMC AMX?
Thanks for any help Larry

Does this AMC 1 gas tank use a filler tube and grommet?
My Rambler tube is attached to tank, connecting tube for gas cap is 2 inch dia.
Does anyone no the dia. of filler tube that works with grommet and will I need an adapter.
Also does the AMC 1 tank taper at the rear towards bumper.  Dia height states over 9 inches.
My Rambler tank tapers down to about 5 inchs toward bumper it is level with bottom of bumper.
Not sure if AMC 1 tank will be to low. Car is still up on jacks just body.
Thanks for any help. Larry
