Good day!
For the folks running 3.73's: Changing from a 3.15 to 3.73...gonna have to change out the speedo drive/driven gear to get the speedo in the ballpark... ...if you converted to a 3.73...what drive/driven gear (tooth count) are you running...and where did you get your pieces/parts for the AMC T-10? I believe there is a 9 tooth (drive) and 23 tooth (driven) gear in there now...from what I can gather from the TSM and research on line. (haven't confirmed what's in there yet...but that was one of the options in '68 and I remember the driven gear to be "white") It appears 8/23 is good for a 3.55...what combo. are you running for a 3.73? (I believe a 23 tooth count driven gear is the biggest you can get) I've read on here (somewhere?) that some of the Ford transmission parts (TopLoader) may work with the AMC T-10...can anyone substantiate? PM or post...thank you! Michael Edited by AMoCoLite - Sep/19/2018 at 8:13pm |

Try this: http://www.tciauto.com/tc/speedometer-gear-calculator/
If you have a 9 tooth drive gear you need a 25 tooth driven gear, which are not available. You should be using an 8 tooth gear with a 23 tooth drive gear. This is all based on a 26.5" tire diameter, which is basically stock. Chris

Understood...no worries on the calculation.
Agreed...23 tooth is the highest tooth count driven gear you can get (that I’m aware of). Is the drive gear (not driven gear) on an AMC T-10 machined on...or is it replaceable? If it is replaceable in a T-10...how big of a job is it to replace? (anybody done it?) Where did you get your 8 tooth drive gear? Appreciate the responses! Michael |

The drive gear is not machined on, it is a plastic gear inside the tail shaft of the transmission. To replace it requires that the transmission be pulled, though it might be able to be done in the car. Easiest is the pull the transmission. It is a bit finicky, but not impossible to do. A pro can do it in a few minutes, you and I might take longer! I believe APD carries the 8 tooth gears and probably the other vendors. I know Amark has a selection of different driven gears and maybe the 8 tooth as well.

If I remember correctly, 1,000 Revolutions Per Mile
is the "target" correct speed of the Speedometer Cable for the Speedometer and Odometer to be correct. Which is 1,000 RPM at 60 Miles per Hour. 2779 = Revs Per Mile Driveshaft with 3.73 (41:11) Gears & 255/60/15 = 27.05" Full Diameter. 2886 = Revs Per Mile Driveshaft with 3.73 (41:11) Gears & 255/60/15 = 26.05" -1/2" Squish Diameter. 2779 * ( 8 / 22 ) = 1,010 Revs Per Mile Speedometer Cable 2886 * ( 8 / 23 ) = 1,003 Revs Per Mile Speedometer Cable The White 23 Tooth Gear for the T-10 is the same as used in AMC AMX BW M-11 3.15. And if my old notes are correct, I helped someone 10+ years ago with a T-10... The White 23 Tooth Gear for the AMC T-10 is the same as one used in Ford C4 C5 C6 & AOD Transmissions... Available as TCI Auto # 881004 for ~$17.00, but may want to check with some local Transmission Shops first and just ask for a White 23 Tooth for a Ford C6 etc or maybe try a Local Ford Dealer ? . Not guaranteed correct, but useful info I guess.
