1966 Ambassador 327 2 bbl engine. Will start when cold, runs well, but slowly chokes off then won't restart. Put in new fuel filter, cleaned outside of carburetor, same problem. Ran some high octane gas from separate gas can. same problem.
How do you tell if the problem is with the fuel pump or the carburetor?
thanks

If you replaced the fuel filter then I would guess that it's the carb. Have you checked the carb's choke yet? If your carb has no choke, how much gas do you pump into it when starting up?

Is there any gas in the carb when it dies?

Is the exhaust heat riser valve open?
