everything I have read that the bore and stroke for a 69 and a 70 390 is the same so what is the difference between piston themselves?

Pistons; not sure beyond the valve relief. '70 block is taller and the rods longer.

Different sized head bolts, a wee bit more beef in the main webbing, a taller deck height, and different crank, pistons and rods.

Heads. The 1970 390 is a 1969 390 on Flonase. Less congestion.

The 68-69 rods are 5.790 long and the 70 rods are 5.858 long. I believe the diff in the pistons are the location of the pins in regards to the piston height.
