Is there a adjustment on the pushrod, doesn't appear to be. The issue is when the brake pedal is in it's normal state, you can put it up towards driver about 1 1/2". It's a manual master.

I have not seen an AMC manual brake pushrod that was adjustable, and that is how most cars of other manufacturers are as well. The bolt attaching the pushrod to the pedal often has an eccentric that can be turned to change the pedal height and sometimes there is a rubber bumper up on the pedal bracket to prevent the pedal from traveling up too far, but that's about it. On a lot of cars the only thing keeping the brake pedal from traveling higher is the pushrod locks into a sheet metal retainer inside the master cylinder. It allows some movement but the pushrod should not pull out of the master cylinder.

Probably the pushrod retainer clip is missing from the master. Wilwood makes an adjustable unit that Iuse with their MC. I does not have a retaining clip so I had to fabricate a stop on the brake pedal arm to keep it from pulling out

I have a clip from my 71 manual drum master. I assume it is about the size you need.
I can measure it's diameter, to verify. I have no use for it, as I removed my brake apply rod for my mods. $1.00 should cover postage via mailed letter envelope. |
