It's not losing coolant but starting to smoke a little . All of the Plugs look about the same. Talked to a guy here in Indy, and he can do the heads. Thanks for the info.

Has it been sitting for a long time? Is it running rough?

I'd probably pull the valve covers first and make sure everything is ok up there, no stuck valves, bent pushrods or broken rockers. Bad cam perhaps.
I've finally given up drinking for good...........now I only drink for evil.

In the old days, your mechanic might run the engine at a fast idle and pour a can of Hastings CASITE down the carb at an increasing rate until it stalled the engine...then let it sit for 30 minutes...then restart the engine and blow the loosened carbon out the exhaust, until the smoke in the exhaust clears up. With modern air pollution laws, and the fact that when you run CASITE through the carb it suddenly looks like you're fogging for 'skeeter's,'it's use in this manner is probably frowned upon.

If you can get a can of GM Top Engine Cleaner, it does exactly what CASITE used to do.

On #8, you wouldn't be out of line to suggest that the PCV system may be contributing to a build-up in that cylinder.

Leaking valve stem seals or a stuck/gummed up oil ring will cause that cylinder to use more oil, and the extra oil on the rings will cause it to seal better. Oil use and higher compression in affected cylinders.  Rebuilding the heads will take care of it if it's bad guides or seals causing the issue. I'd have it machined for positive type seals if it has umbrella seals now (most likely has umbrellas).

I must be missing something..What happened to the heads since the spring to raise the compression 30 and 60 psi?if it was coolant that much liquid it would look like a crop duster when you start it up...i would run to operating temp..pull the plugs ..disable the ignition system...crank it for 5 seconds and perform the test again
