Yes, you can run up to somewhere around 0.500" lift or a little over before you have to do something about guide to retainer clearance.
From my experience, my 1971 360 was running a Crane H-272-2 (272/284 adv, 216/228 @ 050, 484/512 lift 112 LSA 1800-5400 RPM) with completely stock, non-adjustable valve train apart from possibly different length pushrods. Ran fine with the stock springs, presumably with nearly 50 years of previous use, but would valve bounce if you pushed it past 5,500 RPM. With the valve springs and retainers were swapped out for the Comp items I posted above and with a bit bigger cam, it will now rev cleanly to somewhere north of 6,000 RPM.

It ain't gospel or nothin', but "Performance American Style" says...
"A minimum clearance of 0.180" is required between the Retainer and Seal. It may be necessary to machine the Valve Guide Boss to obtain this clearance when cams with over 0.440" Lift are installed."
