I've got an electrical issue with my '69 Rebel. I had the starter rebuilt, and when I got everything hooked back up the ALT and OIL lights were on on the dash. The key wasn't even in the ignition. I've checked and re-checked all connections at the starter and the solenoid mounted on the fender. I've also replaced the ignition switch, but nothing seems to work.

I'm actually wanting to sell the car to buy an engagement ring, and I'd really like to get this taken care of first.
Anyone have any ideas?

What happens if you disconnect the two smaller wires from the solenoid - the ones that go to the S and I terminals - not the LARGE ones on the sides, but the two smaller wires (green and yellow wires most likely) ?
Something is feeding power to the lights and you need to find out "what changed" if it didn't do that before.
when something changes - works and then stops working, especially after a person does anything, one must ask "what changed" or "what's different now".
Since you worked with the starter and solenoid, try starting there.
What else was disconnected and then reconnected?

Yes, when I remove those wires, the lights go out. I hooked everything up the way it was before.
