Hey Guys,
I'm looking for a different set of wheels for the 1962 American. The previous owner told me it has the same bolt pattern as a Ford Crown vic. Is that true? Anyone have any recommendations for wheels? I feel like Crown vic wheels might be to wide up front, but its a common bolt pattern so I should be able to findother wheels with the same bolt pattern. Thanks Rob

Depends on the year of the Crown Vic.
The pattern you want is 5 lugs on a 4-1/2" base circle. Pay attention to wheel center hole diameter. And pay attention to backspacing. |

Yes it is 5 on 4.5", and there are TONS of wheels that will fit but like Buzzman said, there a lot of other considerations as well. Backspace is very important, but if you find a set with the wrong hub bore you can have them opened up at a machine shop.

Thanks guys, that's good to know. I figure if I have an idea of what fits I can keep my eyes open.

You will probably be limited to a 7" wide wheel with no more than 3-3/4" backset. Even then you might need a 1/8" wheel spacer. You can't use a thick aluminum wheel as the outer tie-rod end fits right between the brake drum and wheel on the 58-63 American. Any steel rimmed wheel will fit, and some cast alloy wheels will, but if it's very thick the tie-rod ends will dig into the rim, especially when backing (angle changes on the tie-rod ends). Most OEM alloy wheels would work, but modern ones use a large backset. You can use bolt-on spacers to use Mustang wheels or something similar though.
