the dash knob/cable assembly is easily testable. the knob turns a shaft that has a gear on it. the gear engages a rack, mounted 90 degrees to the shaft, that pushes/pulls a cable. you'll detach the cable at the motor by loosening a screw that is threaded into a "D" shaped thing about 3/8" wide that clamps the cable housing to the motor body. the wire int he cable has a washer-like thing over it, with the wire flattened to retain it. you loosen the "D", lift the cable out of the motor body, and extract the disc-tip from it's slot in the plastic valve on the motor.

it's all very old-world, meaning pre-war, technology. it's more or less unlike any other engineering in the car. wiper motors and related are fairly close to 19th century tech. it's very nicely made, just weird-seeming. it's actually subtle and clever, just  not modern-car-like!

as you can tell i like this stuff :-)

thanks....looking forward to disassembly soon. Trying to recover from some medical issues. I intend to take pics and post, maybe you can shed more light in the process. But I'm sure i'll eventually send it away for repairs.
