6PakBee hit upon on one of the reasons some vehicles won't tolerate the wrong fluid.

The other big one is the difference in viscosity. This can cause pump whine, and in some extreme cases vibration in the steering rack.

As for the green Pentosin stuff, it is actually called central hydraulic fluid. The front and rear power steering, hydra-boost, and hydraulic suspension happen to share the same reservoir (but not necessarily the same pump) on these cars.
