I am toying with the idea of pulling the automatic out of my 63 Ambassador 880, and installing a 3sp manual with OD from a 64 287v8 car. It has all the parts I need. The one question I have is, will the manual bell housing and clutch plate from the 64 v8 bolt up to the 63 v8.
I didn't have much luck going thru the TSM Thanks

It should all bolt up fine.
To my knowledge you won't see a difference in anything. They redid the motor mounts in late 62-63 but nothing else that I've ever heard of. Both engines are neutral balanced so flywheels interchange.

Should be an easy swap. You really need to swap rear axles too, as the OD trans has a much lower geared rear axle. OD won't pull the stock Ambo 2.87 or 3.15 auto axle very well, would only get to use OD when going 70 or faster on the interstate. OD axle will be around 3.54. All 64 V-8s with stick got 3.54 axles, with and without OD... which is a bit odd! Also... if you have the "Shift Command" floor shifted auto, it got a 3.54 axle too. No wonder some people have claimed that the 64 Ambo was a hot rod... the high compression engine with a 3.54 axle would be a great stop light drag car, but not so great for high speed cruising... unless you had the OD trans...
Just remember that the T-85 three speed has only one synchronizer between 2nd and 3rd -- don't down-shift into first while moving!! It's generally safe at a very low speed, like 5-10 (tops!), but best to just not do it. If you have issues with the OD let us know, it's not too hard to figure out once you know the system. I had a 63 classic with v8 and 3sp OD in 66 right after graduation from high school and it was quick.
