Did you check your thrust bearing clearance, #3 bearing.
Are you sure the thrust is not wedging up against the crank throw when you torque it? Are you regestering the thrust when you assemble it? |

jcis has a point here and you can check the crankshaft with just feeler gauges.
Bolt up and lube #2, #3, #4 and with feeler gauges ensure your thrust clearance full rotation without bearings in #1 or #5. Now rotate the half bearings into the block #1 and #5, no caps. With feeler gauges rotate the crankshaft and check clearance as you rotate the crankshaft on #1 and #5. If the bearing binds and rolls out or the clearance changes on rotation you know were the problem is. If you cannot get a bearing in you know were the problem is. |

That’s new to me, but a really good process. I love this forum. I’ve only put together one short block. I’ve always started with assembled short locks every other time. |

I ordered another crankshaft to isolate the problem. Same thing so I knew it was the block. Took it back to the machine shop and had it align bored. Everything is perfect. As for using Plastiguage, it was absolutely worthless in determining my problem. All bearings were in spec.
