Not familiar with your year but if its got a mechanical fuel pump it could have a leaking diaphragm leaking gas into the oil.

I daily drive a 1963 chevy nova.. (I know its not an AMC) and the oil cap almost always has a whee bit of milkiness on just the  cap I don't think its anything to worry about unless the oil looks like a mocha.
