I,m thinking of replacing my rebel 232 and box with a 304 and 904 torqueflight. My question is can I keep the original column change or not?If not what are the options please?

Pretty sure you can keep the original column but you might need to change some of the external linkages. I'm thinking of the difference between a 232 optioned Hornet with the BW vs a 258 powered Concord with the 904. Column shifters are rare but you can still shuffle parts around.

Gear selections might not line up, and you may need to modify the linkage rod, but it will work. The detentes for the shifter are actually in the transmission, not the column. Be careful with the kick-down rod though. It has to be adjusted correctly -- can't run without it! It actually works like a TV cable, controls internal pressure as well. You might want to get a Lokar cable instead. Easier to adjust and keep that way. Just get one for a Chrysler 904 -- works with AMC and Chrysler applications.

By the way, the 304 came with a 998, 904 was just behind sixes. If you're getting both together you should have a 998, but if it really is a 904 it will be fine behind a cruiser. I'd put a shift kit in it (towing/RV) as that increases pressure and shifts harder (will make trans last longer), and install an external cooler in the return line from the radiator. Keep the fluid cool by reducing slipping (shift kit) and the cooler and the trans will last much longer.

TF linkage goes the opposite way than BW. You need the crossshaft from a TF car.
