I recently acquired a barn find Rambler American hardtop, and it didn't have any keys. The doors weren't locked, but the trunk is. I tried a few random keys, but none went in. So, I was wondering if there's a way to release the trunk from inside. I tried removing the backrest of the rear seat, but it only lifts up, so I can see inside. It won't come out though. So, can I open the trunk, or do I need to have a key made?

If it a a top-line Rambler with a locking glove box, the key will fit the trunk (at least the factory key would fit the trunk). You could take the glove box lid to a locksmith and get a key made. Joe

Unfortunately, the rear seat backrest is bolted on at the top from INSIDE the trunk. You'll have to go the locksmith route as Joe suggested or punch the lock and buy a new one once the trunk is open.

Or use a long steel rod to trip the latch. IIRC the latch has an arm that the key pushes over. I think you can see the arm from the back, but can't remember. You can take a large screwdriver and jam it in the key lock then twist the entire lock assembly, but that will deform the hole that holds the lock in. I've done it and successfully repaired the hole (bent back into shape), but you might not want to do that.
