1975 gremlin, 998 trans, full manual forward shift valve body B&M Z gate shifter. Ok - Always had trouble with cable routing, tight turns and close proximity to headers wears the liner out. Looped down under trans toward oil pan and back around. I wraped the last one in exhaust wrap and it helped. that was a 5 ft cable. Found a 7ft cable I had around and looped that to top of engine and it shifted and touched header and destroyed cable. Any suggestions on cable length, routing or heat wrap. Thanks

Gosh, after thinking about it a brake cable is twisted strands, a throttle cable is solid and won't buckle under force... why not use a throttle cable. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lokar-TC1000HT36-Hi-Tech-36-Stainless-Steel-Throttle-Cable-Kit-/381245375366?epid=1617858666&hash=item58c3fec386:g:Zm0AAOSwBLlVQs~v&vxp=mtr

A friend who is an aircraft mechanic gave me some little heat shields used on airplane exhaust. I put them on my headers where the cable passes by and never had a problem.
