Hi
Does anyone know what may cause the throttle rod to stick wide open in a 1 barrel holly carb.? It only happens in my 66 232 classic 770 when the petal is floored.

That's something you're going to have to look at yourself,  because there's several different possible causes.
The linkage could be catching on something,  it could be binding at any of the pivots in a certain part of it's travel.
The throttle plate in the carb could be binding when it's at full travel.
Do you have throttle linkage,  or a flexible cable throttle ?

If it's a flexible cable, a loose strand of wire in the covered portion can cause a stuck throttle.

Take the linkage loose from the carb,  see which binds when you move it to full travel.

Remember the Toyotas that were experiencing sudden full throttle problems,  and Toyota blamed it on aftermarket floor mats.
Possible causes are numerous,  only you can narrow it down to one.

I have had worn engine mounts cause linkage binding on full throttle. Engine torque rolls the motor and the linkage won't retract.
