imho.....

DYNAMIC EFFECTIVE COMPRESSION RATIO .......
is the 1st & "MAIN" GOAL and "DESIGN FACTOR" or whatever...

DYNAMIC CR somewhere between 8.5 & 9.0 to 1 is the GOAL...
to "work" with PUMP GAS hopefully without detonation....
and to maximize Torque and Horsepower....

Aluminum or Iron Heads and/or Piston Deck Clearance ( Quench )
can / may / will "skew" what Dynamic CR is "tolerable" on Pump Gas.

DYNAMIC EFFECTIVE COMPRESSION RATIO calculators are on-line .

1st Determining "choice" is the DESIRED RPM RANGE
which determines THE CAMSHAFT duration at .050 Lift.....

Lower RPM Range, shorter Camshaft Duration,
earlier Intake Valve Closing Angle,
LESS "differential" between STATIC and DYNAMIC CR.

Higher RPM Range, longer Camshaft Duration,
later Intake Valve Closing Angle,
MORE "differential" between STATIC and DYNAMIC CR.

CAM INTAKE VALVE CLOSING ANGLE "DRIVES" EVERYTHING ELSE
relative to ALL Other PART SELECTION and MACHINING WORK

Cam Intake Valve Closing Angle determines Dynamic CR
that results from the combination of ALL the other parts.

About 9:1 Maximum Dynamic Effective Compression Ratio
Maximizes HP & Torque.... on PUMP GAS !

"Long" Duration camshaft, Late Intake Closing Angle,
STATIC CR may need to be 10:1 or higher
to result in 8.x:1 DYNAMIC CR ( pump gas ).

"Short" Duration camshaft, Early Intake Closing Angle,
STATIC CR may need to be only 9.x:1
to result in 8.x:1 DYNAMIC CR ( pump gas ).

Nothing more than the opinions.......
