I doubt a T5 would survive long behind a 401. Mustang owners spend big bucks to get them to survive behind a 302.

I like the idea of a T-5 sitting behind a 4.0L or stroker but behind a V8 like even the 304, I hesitate to do that. I'd rather stick to the automatic since my V8 car is for the track but I wouldn't want a Borg Warner auto behind it either. In cases like this it's probably best to go with a Toyota transmission.
