Not sure but I think this came off a '69 390. The timing marks are unlike any I've seen on AMC V8s.

I can't tell you the year but that timing cover was used from '68 thru '70 at least.

found one like that on a 67 -343 4bbl in my marlin.I think they were used on the early production 290 and 343 engines.

The date is embosed on the inside of the cover near the bottom. There were 3 or 4 manufacturers of the cover throughout the years. The first ones were made at Dohler Jaris "DJ" and a second one was made at SKRL. I can't remember what that stands for but I have it wrote down somewhere.
The one you have pictured is a very early one. You can see the circled "DJ" just below the part number. I have seen those on the 1966 290 which is probably what that one came off of. Like mentioned above, that style was probably used up to about 1968. I will dig through my stash and see if I can make rime or reason out of the changes. I will have to post this all up for the heck of it when I get a chance. Edited by SC397 - Aug/14/2017 at 7:34am |

These timing covers with "boxed" timing marks were used up to very early 1968 model year, late 67 production engines. I recently overhauled a June 67 build 343 4V engine that had same "boxed" timing marks. I previously owned a very early build 68 Javelin that was 343 4V, 4 speed, Scarab Gold/Black Stripe, Tan Interior....and it had the "normally" seen open timing marks. Hope this helps.
