I'm doing the Scarebird disc conversion on a 1958 American and I'd like a new master cylinder with dual reservoirs. I have all stock original parts in there, so the MC is currently mounted under the floor and is filled through a hole by the accelerator pedal.
I'm assuming I will need a remote reservoir and new plumbing to the junction point, which is fine, but what master cylinder do I buy to start the conversion?

I will take a stab at this.
If your original mc has a rear mount not a side mount you could a use mc from a 74 hornet disc/drum unit. About $25 at local parts place. You may need a residual pressure valve or two. http://tinyurl.com/ycf27nx4 Plus lines to the rear brakes. I used the hornet mc on my 62 classic, yes the hornet mc only has two holes to mount which I enlarged to fit the firewall in my case. I lengthened the pushrod by about 1/4 inch to get full stroke on the mc. Tomj might have some insight since I believe he converted to disc with a below the floor mc. Nick

Well. problem is mine's a side mount. So I need a 1" bore side mount that either fits under the floor or I need a remote reservoir. Or I need to fabricate a rear mount bracket. I'm not worried about the plumbing.
Can anyone direct me to a master cylinder? I'm sure this has been done.

TomJ custom built his pedal and master setup. Sounds like you will need to make a custom bracket to mount a Hornet MC under the floor. That would be the only way I know of to do what you want anyway. Here are some Speedway units -- surely one will be close to what you need? As always, nothing Rambler specific...

I know Wilwood make a couple 1" MCs that are side mount - I have some on my race car - but I'm not sure about the bolt centers.
I also see Scarebird has a Wilwood end mount MC plate - bolt or weld I guess. I was hoping for a later model dual reservoir retrofit but it doesn't look good.

My Scarebird setup is controlled by a remote fill GM master I purchased from Engineering Components in Connecticut. They modify it to be remote fill. I installed it in a day I had it fitted to the stock pedal. I used a 7/8 bore on their recommendation and it is great without power.
