I had to remove the engine last year due to broken flexplate. While waiting for parts i inspected rod bearings, reused them as no issues found. This car is mostly street driven but i dont feel occasional strip use would hurt it.

I bought 401 crank and block and im planning to make something similar for my other amc.

Sorry for kind of jumping in here.  Would anyone know what the diameter is for a standard 401 crank's main and rod journals are, or a place where I could find the info?  I bought yesterday at the Gettysburg show from a vendor a 401 crankshaft that is suppose to be standard.  Today at home with a calipers I measured each hoping to compare the factory diameter to what I have.  Also the difference to confirm how worn or if it is in fact standard and hasn't been ground?  I got 57.11" rods and 69.80" mains.

Thanks Scott

All AMC v-8s have 2.747" mains. Rods are 2.248" for the 401, 2.094" for the 304 and 360. These are standard. Some did leave the factory undersize, but they were few and far between.

I never used this conversion for something so precise as bearing journals,

but the metric to std x.03937 formula shows that your specs are right on;

57.11x .03937 = 2.2484
69.80× .03937 = 2.748

Tufcj listed the factory specs as 2.248& 2.747 so that looks spot on to me.

I would be willing to sell a 360 stroker kit with the 360 off-set ground crank, connecting rods and forged pistons if anyone is seriously interested. The pistons are for a 4.155" bore and the stroke is 3.53" resulting in a 383 cubic inch 360. Compression ratio would be about 9.5:1 with the big 62cc heads.

Here is some detail on how to install a 401 crank in a 360 block.
