Chris....is your Javelin Power or Manual Steering????  It makes a big difference at the rag joint to steering box set up and maybe what your main issue.

Power steering. I have unfortunately loaned out my TSM, so I am sure I am missing something stupid here!

I am still having some issues with the PS being a bit sticky. I think it is air pockets, and it is getting better. Any thoughts on that?

Thanks!

Chris

Chris...(This is for 1970 up AMC/Saginaw Columns ONLY) I understand the 70 steering column lock plate has a space, to make it go on only one way.  If you place the steering wheel on so that the bars on your rim blow are horizontal ......that automatically aligns the main steering shaft int he correct orientation at the rag joint.  The horn slip ring can only travel so far left or right through the locking plate.  On a NON TILT COLUMN, Power Steering car the rag joint can only be aligned on one place, due to flat spot on Steering Box....but you have to make sure the steering box is centered, just turn full left, then full right...count rotations and split in half and wind it back to the middle.  That get the top half set up then install the tie rods and adjuster sleeves and you can do the string method to get you close until you get a precision alignment.  I know you have had you car a long time, so this probably does not matter, but for future some 1970 and post AMC Tilt Columns had another spline at the rag joint or a flex joint between the firewall and the rag joint, I have seen these "keyed" and also all splines.....the all spline ones are a real pain to get the Steering Wheel to road wheel alignment oriented properly.  The flex joint mid column was a smart idea by Saginaw, since it made the upper half of almost every column the same, just swap the bottom end to fit multiple distances from firewall to steering box.
