So, running into one more issue.
Pulled the list number off my carb and can't find jack. I've got a Holley 1920 List number 7748. I called Mike's Carburetor Parts and they said my list number is correct (yes i have the right number) but said they do not offer a rebuild kit for that carb. They also contacted a couple other vendors they work with and none of them offer kits either. Bummer. Of course, the main difference between 1920 kits of different list numbers is the Accelerator Pump. The one part I'm almost certain I need. So, looks like I'll be taking the carb apart so I can see if someone sells my specific accelerator pump. I was hoping to have the replacement kit before I dove in so that I could do it all at once. Looks like I won't be able to do that. Guess I'll have to take a lot of pictures to make sure I can get it back together correctly. It's always something. But, that's what makes life fun. Maybe I'll see about starting tomorrow. If not, it will have to be this weekend.

I suggest you contact Holley and ask where you can buy a rebuild kit for the carb? Or get a diagram with part numbers and ask for specific parts. I have never done this but I do understand that they offer a rebuild service for their carbs so you would think they still make the parts. Joe

Update:
So, I called Holley and they said they do nothing on 1bbl carburetors anymore, but did give me the number for their supplier (Daytona Parts Co.). Well, Daytona says I'm SOL. They do not have a rebuild kit for the Holley 1920 #7748. They are out of accelerator pumps (which I need), know of no one currently making them, and have no plans to reproduce them as of now. They basically told me that my list number (7748) "had a line thru it" in their catalog. Awesome. So, now my options are to get a replacement carb (Daytona quoted me $300 new/$260 used), find an old 1bbl that I can rebuild, or get creative. The rest of the carb kit is the same - I'm pretty sure - meaning i can still get gaskets and such, just cannot get the proper accelerator pump, so I might still take it apart to verify. Thoughts? |

Okay. International scouts used the cousin to this carburetor so contact Super Scout Specialists (google it) and see if they have a kit that will work. Old Fords used the cousin too I believe. Joe

i've got an old and surprisingly unmolested Carter A5, list 53xS, where x is smashed. if it's any use you can have it for shipping. it's off a 1965 195.6 OHV. its old and dirty, but looks like it was never apart. not corroded.

Thanks guys. I'll probably be looking for a carb to rebuild as that would be the cheaper and easier route and will keep both of your tips in mind. However, I have an idea for possibly fixing mine at the moment, but won't know if it is feasible until I tear into it. I like learning and tackling challenging projects so I'm going to look into that first. I'll definitely keep the forum updated as I go; if what I'm thinking works, then it could be a possible fix for others in my situation. |

Thanks for the link, I hadn't checked their website yet. But alas, no luck. While they do sell Model 1920 kits, they do not sell one for my list number (a second number stamped into the body of the Model 1920 carbs). There were a couple slight deviations within the Model 1920 carb line having mainly to do with the design of the accelerator pump. If it was any other part, I think I'd just order a kit, but I am nearly certain that the accelerator pump is the one part I absolutely need. And no one has the accelerator pump for my list number. I think there were 3 different accelerator pumps and they are currently reproducing two of them. I have the oddball. If I go with a new carb, I'll either get a used 1920 that I know I can get a rebuild kit for or take tomj up on his offer if that carb will bolt to my intake manifold (according to Daytona Parts Co. there were two different mounting bolt patterns so I need to go check what mine is...). But before I head down that road, I have one more thing I want to look into. |

The main thing about changing carbs is the linkage. I would think your linkage is mechanical.
By changing to cable linkage you open up a lot more possibilities of carbs. Having AMC Fun, Ollie |
