Some cams have a rib cast into the rear journal some do not. If the cam has a rib and the cam plug is pressed too far it will make the cam stick out the front. if the cam is too far forward it will be riding on or against the center cam journal. Looking at your pic I cant tell which is front or rear of the block. |

Is the timing set on. If so check that the cam gear is seated on the cam. If not cam will be too far back and a lifter will ride on the cam journal. I've seen it many times when the builder tries to seat the gear with the bolt. Then the bolt will go through the cover later.

I think you are correct here, you can see on this picture that the lifter has been riding on the edge of the journal. https://ibb.co/bAG02k It feels though as i have to lift out the motor anyway as there is something wrong with the middle bearing for the cam, see the picture (is there no bearing?) http://ibb.co/dA7CF5 Getting a bit fed up on the previous owner on the car.... |
