Hey folks, Looking for some common sense help. I have a power steering pump that I rebuilt on my 74 gremlin. It's a press on pulley and was an amazing pain in the butt to find. Long story short I'm not getting any power steering when I start the car. This is a rebuild and I took the steering gear off when i started 5 years ago. All i did with it was paint it and let it sit on the shelf till i put it all back together. I pulled the return line, started the car and turned the wheel, it's putting out a tiny amount of fluid. Then did the same on the send line from the pump and still barely anything at all.
Question: Do I need to let the car warm up more to get pressure or should it be flowing? Are there any other troubleshooting techniques I should try before taking the pump apart again?

How did you press on the pulley?
If you did not use the threaded installer or hammered on the end of the P/S pump in any way you have wrecked the pump. I forget exactly what shears off, but the pump is dead. Maybe repairable, I just don't remember.

I used a pulley tool to push it back on nothing too abusive. I'm going to take it off and see what's going on inside... again.

The only thing that was wrong that I could tell was that the pressure plate was on upside down. I cleaned the whole thing out with carb cleaner and that was it. Seems to have worked.
