As I previously posted, here, I was thinking of replacing my vacuum wipers with electric.
Until last week, I had not used the wipers more than a few moments. But last week, in the Lake District, where it rains quite a lot, I used them more extensively. What a brilliant system. With the motor rebuilt by Peter Stathes, and the air pump repaired by me, the wipers work without hesitation whether accelerating or not. They can run super-fast, and better still, if it's only drizzling they can run verrrrrry slow, like an interval wipe without the interval. What a brilliant system. Shame that cost-cutting made them vanish from the world. Ivor |

It's a shame ain't it? Peter rebuilt the wiper motor on my 64 Classic (Stella) too and the wipers work great. We don't need no stinkin' new technology. But I would vote for Ike if he were still on the planet with us. I was too young when he was running, but just barely. Joe

Remember a time when mechanical things ruled and electrics weren't trusted?
I don't. I miss those times. |

The vacuum pipes needs to be good, including the pipe to the cabin knob. Old rubber.....
If there is a vacuum pump, that needs to work. My double-decker, the fuel pump is inop, but I stripped and resealed the vacuum section and it works fine. Send the wiper motor to Peter Stathes, it will come back clean and working. No point in fiddling with it yourself. Ivor |

Hmm. My experience with vacuum wipers was in a '50 Chevy. You didn't pray for rain while driving that heap!

I have vacuum wipers on my 67 Ambassador. We drive it on long trips so we see days of rain. It's the system with the two stage fuel pump. Has worked great for several years.
Not sure it really helps but I put just a touch of oil in the vacuum motor's intake every spring. Bruce Clarkson |
