I picked up a flywheel and was told it was for a 343, it has no counter weight and the casting number is 3179070, I can't find that number listed anywhere, I am looking for a 290 flywheel, would it possibly be for a 290?

I have a 1970 Scout with an AMC 232 I6. Looking for a matching flywheel. I can’t find anything that describes the diameter of the correct flywheel. Anyone have an idea?

According to NAPA PROLink the OD of the flywheel ring gear is 16.68 in.

Hope that helps!!

Thanks Dennis. I am running into an issue bc my bell housing has only a 13” opening and the flywheel I have is too large to fit. I need to figure out if there is another size that would work for the 232 and fits the current bell housing.

What transmission are you using?

You asked the same question in a previous post and the ebay flywheel was available for purchase.
IH Forums have people that had machine shops make the IH flywheel out of billet material, were they got the dimensions, don't know.
There was also the link provided and stated a 10-1/2" clutch for the 1970 IH 232.
That would make the flywheel one of the 11" as they list in the IH Forums a 10" for the I4, 3 or 4 different 11", and V8's had 12". IH had 6 or 7 different engines for 1970.
IMO, buy the flywheel off ebay if still available or start asking on the IH Forums for a supplier. I did not find one.

There is a trail to start following, International designated the AMC232 as the M123,124,130
Now the clutch for an M123/124/130 is an 11215 or 11216 11" 6 spring. the 11216 is the light duty.
Reference this page and you can work out the transmissions and transfer cases:
