I'm re-spraying my AMC Trunk.

Due to the nature of Black/Aqua spatter paint, I'm putting down a black undercoat.

Should the undercoat be gloss, semi-gloss, or flat?

In other words, when new, was the trunk spatter paint matt of glossy? I've only seen old ones that all look flat, but some guys seem to do them with a gloss, and I'm not sure what's right?

Thanks,
C

I would assume the undercoat is the gloss paint that the rest of the car was painted with.

Test spray your spatter paint somewhere and then test it to see if it is waterproof. The formula used years ago was not waterproof and you had to spray a clear coat over it.

I've been reading about this.

Dupli-Color now has a 'water-resistant' formula that doesn't require a sealer - I haven't used it yet, and it's en route from Amazon.

In my 74 Matador there seems to have a been a light cream, different colour than the body paint, over which was sprayed black-aqua spatter paint.

From testing it out, spatter paint doesn't cover too well, so I've put down a layer of gloss black, but I'm wondering if I should do semi-gloss or flat.
