Hi Guys,
So my son and I are finishing up his 70 BBB AMX
We are looking for some finishing touches.
1) Bumpers, our original ones are in good shape but need chroming.
Has anyone ever used Niagara Chrome in N.Falls NY. or are the after market re-chrome Just as good.
2) Carpeting: Who has the best replacement carpeting.
3) We would like to add on a set of Sidewinder pipes, does anyone have a set or know where to get a set.

Thanks
Dennis and Scott

I would price the ones from AMD and compare to getting the old ones plated. Sometimes it's cheaper to buy the new ones. As to the carpet I tried a few until I went with these guys in NY. Measure the car between wheel wells in the back and they well make sure it fits. They are all cut and sewn kits and not moulded so fit is nice! Also, I recommend going with the higher priced carpet that they sell.

Are the AMD bumpers different than the imported ones everyone else is selling, and how does the quality compare?

So on the sewn carpet, did you order the 407 loop?

1. The "AMD" bumper, is the import that the AMC vendors are selling....I would highly recommend them, if you are not looking for the $1000 triple plate chrome job.

2. 70 AMX Should have Cut Pile carpet, not Loop,   Loop was only in 1968.

Dennis, Get a quote for the re-chrome. I'd say that if they can't beat the price for the re-production bumpers, I'd go with the re-productions. Also take into consideration the condition of your core. Sidewinder here on the forum is from Niagara Falls so he might have some info on Niagara Plating. I've seen them advertising at the Western NY swap meets, Dunkirk, Niagara, Hamburg, etc, but I have never had them plate anything.

I don't know where you are from in NY but the last bumpers I had plated, I used Sandys. They did a fantastic job on my 70 bumpers but they are out of Syracuse..

To get the bumpers rechromed will probably run you $600 to $800 for the front and $350 to $550 for the rear depending on the condition of the cores. That is for show chrome. I have not seen the repops in person. I bought an aftermarket for my Expedition and it was alot lighter. 4 years later it started to rust. I would personally rechrome the originals. You know they are going to fit correctly and not rust out if properly done.

Ross, Not in ALL 68's just most of them. The Scarab gold car had cut pile, but I sure you know that.
Long time AMC fan. Ambassador 343, AMX 390, Hornet 360, Spirit 304 and Javelin 390. All but javelin bought new.

George...until you mentioned it, I forgot the late change over to cut pile.......from the data I have there was no direct date....or body number cut in.  Seems like they changed over as they ran out and since red was not as popular as other colors the original cars in the AMX registry were the last to see the change over.  The OP was asking for 70 and they were definitely only cut pile
